The 1860s miner’s cottage was originally owned by a foundry worker, Ernie Elliott, who was renowned for his community spirit and attractive market garden.
Whilst the property had been updated by the time Sandy purchased it in 2007, she soon began working away at her own renovations. It wasn’t long after that Sandy met her now-husband Rob, a local builder, and the pair have since poured hours of work into bringing their vision to life.
Their renovations included opening up rooms, raising the roofline in the 1970s addition at the rear of the home, restoring floors, adding insulation and more. The couple worked with local interior stylist Belle Hemming to bring Sandy’s dream “Hamptons-meets-country” aesthetic to fruition and the property features many of Sandy’s recycled items and heirlooms collected over time.
Today, Acre of Roses is a private and luxurious self-contained restorative sanctuary, which offers every modern convenience to guests.
